I recently attended the new women's health hub service in daisy hill when I unfortunately suffered a miscarriage. The staff's care during the consultant was good. They explained everything clearly and took bloods and explained some outcomes that may happen depending on the results. I was sent home and told to expect a phonecall regarding blood results.
I can not fault the service I received during that short consultation while within the clinic setting.
However the aftercare of a miscarriage or lack of it was very apparent. I received a phonecall that night to tell me it was confirmed miscarriage. And that was it. End of care. Go on and deal with it on your own. I wasn't counselled with what could happen, what I could pass, or anything like that. This is due to I believe they thought I had a complete miscarriage. Again assumed but not true. I was very much on my own to deal with it, and what I experienced was very sad and distressing.
4 weeks later I received a letter in the post for my booking scan. This floored me. I was horrified to be standing looking at a letter to invite me to see how my baby was progressing.
Do women's health hub or early pregnancy not look into this when someone has had a miscarriage? I did tell them I had self referred. May I suggest this is one of the first things that's check and stopped at the earliest stage possible. It was extremely poor form and so unprofessional and inappropriate for me to receive that letter.
