"Care and support in Summerfield Ward"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as a service user),

After our son was born at 37 weeks by planned c-section (due to growth restriction), myself and the baby spent 8 nights in Summerfield Ward while we tackled issues with feeding, weight gain and jaundice.

I wanted to give some feedback about the very good care we received. The staff were kind and compassionate. In particular, HCSW Laura was so helpful and kind during my stay. Laura offered support with top ups while I was having to follow a gruelling triple feeding regime and as well as practical support as often as needed through the night, Laura also kept me sane with chatting and emotional support too. I had wanted to nominate her for a Daisy Award but then discovered HCSWs are not eligible, so decided to give this feedback via Care Opinion.

There were many staff who gave outstanding support too, midwife Vicky and HCSW Annabel were also very kind and helpful. It was tough for me having such a long stay so I am very grateful to everyone who kept my spirits up and who helped me advocate for my feeding choices. It was a particularly difficult time for me after birth, due to my last birth being  a late 2nd trimester loss, and staff who understood this and were sensitive to our past trauma were much appreciated.
