"Health visitor has been so supportive"

About: Public Health Nursing / Health Visiting Service

(as a parent/guardian),

Where do I start my Health Visitor Laura  has been so supportive and understanding with my youngest. Firstly Laura spotted very early on that she wasn’t saying the key words she should have been and suggested that she had her ears tested. Following this I had to contact a private ENT consultant and it turned out my wee girl needed grommets since the operation Laura was in contact weekly with advice and encouragement.

Fast forward the start of July and I was starting potty training, where do I start! My daughter had severe anxiety and constipation and would not sit on a potty nor a toilet. I phoned Laura that week and left a voicemail she phoned me back that afternoon, she knew by the tone in my voice I was at breaking point. She reassured me all would be fine and take one day at a time.  she posted out information to help myself and my daughter. I was able to message her with updates and she replied at her nearest convenience. The week after the phone call Laura had arranged a house visit she was so at ease which helped myself as I  was on The verge of tears and Laura was calm and professional she talked me through strategies and she also spoke to the nurse at the health centre for further advice and she suggested disimpactation. She explained in detail what to do and didn’t give me any false hope of what I was to expect. Laura was also was very encouraging and empathetic to my daughter and during her visit my daughter went to the toilet and Laura had stickers and a reward chart at hand for her.

During the regime week Laura messaged me to see how things were going which I found I actually needed to know someone is thinking about you means the world. Laura phoned a few weeks later which we arranged and still was so kind and compassionate saying it all won’t be plain sailing but I was doing a magnificent job and don’t be so hard on myself. I feel that if I phoned Laura about any concerns in the future she would respond promptly. I really could not of went through this experience without her advice and encouragement. Thank you ☺️

Dear hekadn88

My name is Geraldine Doherty and I work as a Lead Nurse in Public Health Nursing. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this lovely compliment about your health visitor Laura.

It is lovely to know the care Laura provided with such professionalism, empathy and kindness has made a significant difference to you and your daughter. Becoming a parent is such an exciting time but can also be challenging and I am glad that you have Laura's support, encouragement and feel you can ring her when you need her help.

Your compliment is a lovely acknowledgement of Laura and her high standard of care, kindness and compassion - I will ensure your compliment is shared with Laura, her manager and colleagues as I know they will be delighted to receive this positive feedback.

Best wishes to you and your daughter.

Many thanks
