"Calling Inpatients Services"

About: Carseview Centre / General Psychiatry

(as a carer),

My relative is currently an inpatient. When I phone up and ask to speak to the named nurse who is looking after my relative  they so far have not given me their name.

The first person who answers the phone does and then call is passed on and I have no idea who I am speaking to or how to pick up a conversation from a previous one. My relative has been in for a few days and I have phoned once a day over first three days but have stopped due to this

I understand about confidentiality but there are things I can offer and I just don't think I am building up a relationship with the team looking after him or a mutual plan when it eventually comes to discharge planning.

Hi Cara

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I am sorry that staff have not identified themselves when they have taken your call and that this has led to you to stop calling.

Engaging with carers in a meaningful and valued way is key part of patient care, and I am truly sorry we haven't got this right so far.

I will remind teams of the importance of identifying themselves.

I would ask, that you consider calling back, so that you can continue to contribute to your relatives care.

I would also be happy to speak with you to reach a resolution if you wish, and can be contacted via switchboard on 01382 660111

Thank you

Danielle Gorrie
