"Excellent care but no confidentiality"

About: Gloucestershire Royal Hospital / General surgery

(as a relative),

Phoned 111, after giving details, was referred to ED, but we asked to be referred to Cheltenham Hospital ED, lower wait time. Was seen quite quickly and was referred to Gloucester Hosiptal Ward 5b, got there approx 8pm and my husband was seen at 10pm ish by two nurses, who took his bloods and details. He was then seen by a doctor who then arranged for him to stay in hospital overnight to have an operation the following day. Overall experience was very good, my hubby had never been in hospital in his entire life and the care he received was excellent, all the staff on Ward 5b were keeping him well informed, they made him comfortable and at ease. Thank you.

The only thing he did find uncomfortable was listening to other patients having to have enemas on the ward and no confidentiality regarding other patients' personal problems, he said it would have been better if they could have wheeled the patients to a side room to discuss their problems and give them enemas etc in private.  He thought it was not very dignified for the patient who was being treated etc so that everyone else on the ward could hear everything. They were not on beds, as  everyone in this ward were on trolleys that are used, to be wheeled down to operations and they could have quite easily wheeled them to a side room.
