"Outstanding service from the paramedic team"

About: Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / Emergency ambulance response

(as a carer),

Last Saturday evening my daughter who has an osteosarcoma in her left femur had a fracture at the site of the tumour. She was in excruciating pain and wouldn’t let anyone move her.

NIAS crew Paddy and Peter duly arrived. We were the first shout of their shift (apologies to the student, can’t remember her name). Paddy and Peter (don’t know their surnames, though Peter has impressive beard and enjoys rowing and cycling among other things -  Paddy trained in London.)

These two guys were utterly calm, efficient and caring in the face of a 19 year old girl in agony and two parents in meltdown. They found a way to move my daughter to the ambulance with minimal movement of her leg.

En route to Daisy Hill hospital they managed her pain as best they could and continued to look after her while we were waiting  for a bed to become free.

Guys, I really hope you read this, thank you from the bottom of our hearts, you are a credit to NIAS.

Thank you both.

Good morning Davyp,

I would like to begin by thanking you for taking the time to share your experience of the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service. It was heartening to learn how utterly calm, efficient and caring Paddy and Peter (with the impressive beard) were with your daughter as well as you and your partner, and that they were able to move your daughter with minimal movement to her leg.

Feedback such as this lifts the morale of the paramedics involved in what is a particularly challenging period. I would like to share your feedback with the clinicians who attended to you on the day and in order to locate them I would require the following information:

o Date and approximate time of the incident

o The address the ambulance was dispatched to

If you are happy to share this information, I can be contacted at:

maggie.hamilton@nias.hscni.net

I wish your daughter the best with her recuperation.

Kind regards,

Maggie
