"Lack of communication"

About: Community Maternity Care / Lanark Community Maternity

(as a service user),

Disappointed by the community midwife service, in particular post natal. Felt a lot of times I would highlight concerns and they were dismissed or I was told I should just phone triage. A little reassurance was all that was needed.

During postnatal checks baby was never weighed until I asked and at the 10 day meeting baby wasn’t checked at all until I asked for certain things to be checked.

The 6 day check was a different midwife and they fully checked baby but again no weight.

Discharged on a Thursday but Health visitors weren’t made aware of us until the Monday and no handover is given so baby’s history of being in hospital was not handed over which seems poor as it was an important part of baby’s care.

A short phone call between midwife and health visitor to hand over wouldn’t go a miss. Midwife was always polite and friendly so can’t fault there.

Dear warmnf67,

May I congratulate you on the birth of your baby! I can only apologise that your care in the community was disappointing. Your concerns should have been answered by your community midwife.

An electronic hand over would have been made to the Health Visitor with information about your pregnancy journey, delivery and your baby's information, if there were any complications then these should have been discussed face to face or over the telephone.

I will pass your comments onto the Lanark Team leader who will reflect with the whole team.

Should you wish to discuss anything with me, please give me a phone.

Best Wishes

Heather Weir
