"Disabled car parking"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Renal Service

(as a service user),

Disabled parking at Daisy Hill hospital. Arrived recently for dialysis and there were no parking spaces in the blue badge parking area. There were 5 cars without blue badges parked in the spaces. They appeared to be there all night as they had due on the window screens. Also opposite the entrance to the renal department there was 4 parking spaces, now a white van seems to sit there all the time which has large red lines for estate use.

Hi Jonathan,

My name is Teresa, I am the Renal Research nurse in Daisy Hill. I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing ongoing issues with accessing disabled parking while attending for dialysis. We are aware that this is an issue that many of our patients are experiencing on a regular basis and we have been trying to engage with the estates department regarding this issue. You are correct, the four spaces that had previously been allocated for Renal parking has been taken over by estates, this happened unfortunately without consultation with the Renal department and our Lead Nurse has been actively campaigning for these spaces to be returned for the use of Renal patients. Regarding the disabled space at the front of the hospital where you have noticed cars which appear to have been parked overnight without blue badges I can only presume that these may belong to night staff and I will ask our Lead Nurse to discuss this with the other Lead Nurses within the hospital to make all staff aware of the difficulty patients are experiencing when they have early morning appointments. We are aware that there have been formal complaints put in with the complaints department but as of yet no action has been taken. Thank you for taking the time to bring this to our attention and I hope that we can improve your future experience.
