"I received a lack of information"

About: Victoria Hospital / Early Pregnancy Assessment Service

(as a service user),

I unfortunately had a miscarriage 6 weeks into my pregnancy. This was my first pregnancy therefore I wasn't sure what to do therefore I called the Early Maternity Unit for advice. I was disappointed with the phone call conversation I had with someone in the unit, as I received a lack of information and was just told to re-test in 2 weeks. I wasn't given any information on what to expect and she didn't ask if I was ok, whether I was with anyone or provide any emotional support/signposting at that time. I therefore ended up seeking information online about what to expect from miscarriage and utilised online charities for information and support. I didn't require this, but I am worried that someone in a different position who may have a similar experience could have been significantly impacted by the response/lack of response I got.

Dear maf69,

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry for your loss. I am also sorry that you did not feel supported or well informed by the care you received from the Early Pregnancy Clinic. This falls below the care we strive to deliver to patients. I would like the opportunity to review your care and advice given to you. If you would like me to do this, please contact me on claire.massey@nhs.scot

Kind regards, Claire Massey (Clinical Nurse Manager, Gynaecology)
