"A personal service that has enhanced the overall experience"

About: Borders Community Services / Community Maternity service Borders General Hospital / Maternity care Children and Young People's Services / Health Visiting

(as a service user),

My maternity care in the BGH in 2024, including pre and post natal services with the Galashiels community midwives and the Earlston health visitor, has been excellent.

This was the second child I gave birth to here and I had consistent high quality care for both pregnancies and post natal services. I have had the same midwife and health visitor for both pregnancies which has provided a personal service that has enhanced the overall experience.

The midwives and health visitor are very knowledgeable and experienced. They have shown genuine care and have been able to provide useful advice and answers to all my queries.

The post natal community midwife and health visitor visits are essential services to provide general advice as well as reassurance on how your baby is doing.

Dear geminidm93,

Thank you so much for taking time to share your experience of the care provided by the Galashiels Community Midwives and your Health Visitor in Earlston.

I manage NHS Borders Health Visiting service and take great pride in the fact we have a very experienced, knowledgeable and compassionate team of Health Visitors supporting families with young children and it is lovely to receive such positive feedback.

Whilst you don't name your Health Visitor, I have little doubt who you are referring to and have shared your feedback with her and she has asked that I pass on her grateful thanks.

All registered Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors have to write and submit a portfolio of evidence every 3 years to the Nursing and Midwifery Council in order to maintain their registration and I have encouraged your Health Visitor to keep your feedback for inclusion in this respect.

Thank you and kind regards,

Joan Rutherford
