I have been given an appointment for my hearing loss by NHS Lanarkshire to attend the Airdrie Community Health Centre. This is 17 miles from my home (as the crow flies). I am in my 80s and as mentioned suffering with hearing loss. It is going to take me 2 and half hours to travel there by public transport! Which means I need to set off by 7:15 am at the latest.
I am in receipt of the travel information sheet which contains a number to ring for travel advice. I rang this number but the member of staff I spoke to was as confused as I was, working from home they had no access to provide additional information, maps, guides etc on how best to travel to the appointment. The call costs me 12p per minute - quite expensive to get nowhere.
I think some thought should be given when making appointments to the patient's health needs, accessibility and age!
