"Ambulance Service"

About: Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / Patient care services

(as a relative),

My mother had booked an ambulance through local GP surgery to take her for macular degeneration eye injections in Mater hospital. This ambulance was booked well in advance but cancelled the day before. She subsequently missed her important and her treatment was delayed.

For her rescheduled appointment she was a patient in Craigavon Area Hospital. The hospital tried to book her ambulance to take her to the Mater hospital. The ambulance service would not take the booking as in the afternoon. The Mater hospital was unable to issue a morning appointment.

She has now missed her essential eye injection twice. We are very worried this is going to happen again and each delay is potentially causing a decrease in her vision. She is unable to get to the hospital via private car currently.

Good afternoon couraqecj89,

I was truly sorry to read of your recent experience with NIAS. It is always our intention to provide the best service possible and as such is disappointing when our services fall below the expectations of our patients and their families. If you would like a member of our Service User Feedback Team to get in touch to progress your concern further, please provide your contact details to Maggie.hamilton@nias.hscni.net or alternatively they can be contacted at complaints@nias.hscni.net or on 02890 400999.

Kind regards,

Maggie
