"Patient centered and joined up approach in Belfast hospitals"

About: Royal Victoria Hospital / Day Procedure Unit Royal Victoria Hospital / Ear, Nose & Throat Royal Victoria Hospital / Gastroenterology Royal Victoria Hospital / Respiratory medicine (5B and 7CCB)

(as the patient),

Recently I had a number of appointments and assessment procedures with Dr Lindsay in the Respiratory Clinic. Tests followed including CT scans, barium meal, breathing and blood tests. This was followed by detailed feedback from Dr Lindsay both face to face and in written form to keep me informed of what was happening.

Referrals and prompt follow up was then carried out by consultants Dr Devlin in ENT and Dr Johnson in Gastroenterology.

Subsequently I attended the RVH for separate procedures. The care and attention I experienced by all clinicians, medical staff and ancillary support during all these procedures was exemplary.

As a previous cancer survivor on two occasions my anxiety was high. I was listened to, talked to through all that was happening. This was followed up by both immediate feedback and copies of all documentation sent to my GP.

A holistic, integrated person centered approach and experience as a patient.  Thank you to consultants and all staff I experienced I could not have asked or expected more as a patient.

Dear Grateful 73 yr old

Thank you for taking time to provide such lovely and positive feedback on your recent experience within BHSCT.

It is very nice to read your kind words about Mr Devlin, ENT Head & Neck surgeon and how the care and attention you received during your procedure was exemplary. It’s reassuring to hear that you were listened too, an explanation of care was provided and good follow up communication with your GP.

I have shared this feedback with Mr Devlin

Many thanks,

Eugene Douglas,

ENT - Assistant Services Manager

Update posted by Grateful 73 yr old (the patient)

Big assumption that I’m a man, sorry fully female and feminist even at 73. I would be grateful if you’d correct this before passing onto consultants.

Thank you.

Good afternoon

Please accept my sincere apologies for this error, this was an oversight on my part and I am very sorry for any upset this may have caused. I have corrected this and explained this was my error to both consultants and I would not wish this to detract from the very kind feedback and positive experience you described in your original post.

Best wishes for your continued good health and hope that you are recovering well from your procedure

Many Thanks

Mandy Dougan
