"Lack of adequate toilet facilities"

About: WestMARC (Glasgow)

(as a service user),

Firstly, I'd like to thank all the OTs, bioengineers and reception staff at Westmarc Glasgow.  For the past 9yrs, they have done everything in their power to help my daughter (a full-time wheelchair user & regular visitor to Westmarc Glasgow). We are truly grateful for their care and kindness.

Unfortunately our appointments can be quite stressful and lengthy (the longest, so far, being 4hrs).

My daughter is non-mobile and doubly incontinent, so needs a Changing Places toilet with a changing plinth and hoist. Westmarc doesn't have these facilities in their Glasgow building. So I am forced to change her on the consultation beds in the engineer's room. It's undignified, unhygienic and really unpleasant for my daughter, staff and the other clients coming into the room after us.

It is really disappointing that the Westmarc facilities cannot meet our children's care needs.

Dear Steph1213,

Thank you taking the time to share your feedback via Care Opinion. Thank you for your kind comments regarding the staff. I understand your disappointment regarding the toilet facilities at WestMARC. Please accept my apologies for the distress this is causing both you and your daughter. We have submitted plans to convert one of our consultation rooms to Changing Places toilet.

Thank you for highlighting this issue.

Regards

Karl Lees Interim Clinical Lead, WestMARC
