"no access to possibly urgent hospital treatment"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire

(as the patient),

I believe GP's surgery are not included in Care Opinion remit because they are private businesses working on NHS contracts.

The only way for a patient to get to hospital is to get a referral through your GP. The phone appointment system created a bottle neck and pauses patients at a stage where Care Opinion has no authority, a real shame is this an administration error not envisaged or is that the point.

To get a GP appointment you need to phone 8:30am so I did and as usual the line won't connect because too many patients need to phone in at this short period.

My pain is quite strong left side of back in line with Kidneys a repeat issue now more steady/stubborn pain difficult to raise from sitting and getting worried being type 2 diabetic. I really don't know where to turn Ombudsman was not help with complaint about phone issue. with no access to GP patients are left to internet and anxiety not a good situation to be in. Ongoing any help weclome

Dear felixthecat

Thank you for sharing your experience of your GP Surgery.

I am sorry to hear about the problems you have had contacting the practice to book an appointment and then the subsequent challenging experience. It is very disappointing to hear that you have had to make several attempts to get through and have still not been able to get the answers you are looking for

GP surgeries are independent contractors (as you mention)and as such, are not registered to respond on Care Opinion but are responsible for investigating any feedback or concerns about their service. Please could I ask that you contact the practice manager so they can investigate your concerns regarding getting through to the surgery on the phone.

Kind Regards,

Jen

Update posted by felixthecat (the patient)

already contacted surgery and passed to ombudsman while still trying to get through ombudsman not interested even though I mentioned doctor knows about phone issues this wasn't in original complaint can't be considered now looking for a GP that does not do 8:30 appointments doesn't seem t exist. Now I rely on internet for info on any condition not in a good place.
