"Amazing maternity staff"

About: Ayrshire & Arran Community Services / Community Maternity Services Maternity care (Ward 31) / Labour suite maternity Maternity care (Ward 31) / Maternity care (Ward 31)

(as the patient),

I had my first wee boy in June 2023 and the staff were amazing but especially Dr Thompson he was so down to earth and very straight to the point which I like!

With my first everything was simple until a complicated birth and the doctor that day was Dr Barrie who was an angel she honestly made the whole place calm!! We ended up having to go for a C-section but even then she made the place calm. “Hello baby” alerted me to the fact he’d been born but in the calm tones even when he didn’t cry and response still calmed me. We still open his door in the morning with a “Hello baby”

I had my 2nd son in June 2024! So a year later this was more complicated but right from the start and seeing dr Baird helped.

At 38 I knew something was up after my scan and I requested to see him not the other doctor that day and in so glad I did, he told me I wouldn’t be going home but he fully explained everything and told me why it was happening and what was going to happen next etc, took me up the stairs and even sat in the triage waiting room for a little bit with us. The man is the most calm/gentle person and 100% is in the right job!

My husband who doesn’t say much told me he was worried that our baby had to come that day because Dr Baird wasn’t worry but he always said he had to come that day because dr Baird said so and he trusted him! For him that’s a massive compliment

He went on holiday that evening and we didn’t manage to see him again in our few days stay and every doctor I saw over the next few days I told them they weren’t as good as Dr Baird! I see people talk about how amazing the midwife’s are and they are! But the drs are the same.

Also my midwife in north Ayrshire - Kelly. She’s an absolute angel! She put up with me with 2 back to back pregnancies, my worries, my highs and lows and still always had a smile! At times I reached out to her when told something by the hospital because I trusted her option that much!

You could not need a more professional, nice, happy, calming person! Nhs Ayrshire and arran are lucky to have her!
