"I really couldn't fault the service and the staff"

About: Victoria Hospital / Rapid Access and Discharge

(as the patient),

My Oncologist at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre wanted to admit me for some tests and fluids. The Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy is much closer to home so they arranged for me to attend the Rapid Triage Unit there instead.

I was seen very quickly and efficiently with no waiting, even for a chest x-ray. The nurse, Gillian put a cannula in the back of my hand and I didn't feel anything. The Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Lyndsay, was super efficient with examinations and admitting me and I was processed and onto the main hospital ward in less than an hour.

As a patient, I really couldn't fault the service and the staff.

If I had a criticism it is on behalf of the staff who had to lean on a bin to write on my notes and then kneel on the floor to carry out examinations. Someone must be able to provide something to write on and a more comfortable way of examining patients.

Dear Gryffindor Team Captain,

Apologise for the delay in responding to your feedback. My name is Christina Fleming and I am acting senior charge nurse in admissions unit one (The rapid triage unit is an extension of admissions unit 1).

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience we really do value it. I am very happy to hear you had an efficient journey through our rapid triage unit (RTU) with a subsequent direct admission to your speciality ward.
The RTU is still a relatively knew service so to hear that it is making a difference to our patient journey is very positive and reassuring. I will be sure to share your feedback with the staff mentioned and the wider team.

And we will look into getting some additional tables out there.

Best wishes

Christina Fleming
Acting senior charge nurse
