"I was told emergencies are last"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Day surgery

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter and I were sent up to ward 1a after a dog bite to her lip. We were asked to be there for 7.30am but we also live an hour and half away so 5am start for my daughter who was in pain and uncomfortable.

We arrived at 7.30 sharp, staff were amazing and very helpful however by 2pm I had to ask how much longer my daughter had to sit in pain before being seen. I was told emergencies are last as everyone else who were waiting was for elective surgery and they had to be seen first!

Eventually my daughter was finally taken for surgery. Once she had come round from surgery and was ready to go home around 7pm, no one from plastic were responding to the pager 3 times the nurses tried and due to hour and half to get home the nurses suggested we just leave and call back on Monday for update.

The staff on the wards are amazing kind and helpful however think the people above need to relook at how patients are taken in.

Hi Beidpx78

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback.

I'm sorry that you had such a long day for the emergency list. We do run emergency lists along with elective theatre lists and I apologise that this was communicated poorly to you. I will highlight the issues you have raised to the relevant team and this is something we are working on trying to improve.

Thank you also for your kind words about the ward staff who looked after your daughter and I will pass this onto them.

If you would like to discuss this further please do not hesitate to contact me.
