"The staff were very friendly and welcoming"

About: Trauma & orthopaedics / Orthopaedic National Treatment Centre

(as the patient),

I was recently admitted to the National Orthopaedic Treatment Centre in Kirkcaldy for knee replacement surgery. I was operated on at midday and transferred to a very roomy side room in ward 1.

The staff -  from the practice nurse to the auxiliary staff -  were very friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much for them, they went about their duties with a smile, whether it was 10.00 am or 4.00 in the morning after a long night shift.

I unfortunately had a fall in the spacious walk-in shower and toilet while attempting to turn, the nurse who was with me could do nothing to stop the fall occurring, within seconds after she hit the alert button the space was filled with a range of the nursing team, they had to get a hoist from another department and successfully managed to get me back to my seat.

Because I had a slight head knock they put me on 24 neuro observation, and sent me for a CT scan as I was on blood thinner tablets post surgery. Thankfully nothing untoward showed up on the scan , after 4 sessions of physiotherapy and 2 visits from occupational health I was released home.

The food throughout my stay was very good, and the menu options were varied.

I cannot praise the staff too highly and was very impressed with the quality of the space and the care provided
