"Overwhelming loss"

About: Six Degrees Social Enterprise (CIC) / Salford bereavement therapy service

(as the patient),

After the loss of my father to cancer to the slow loss of my mother after his passing to the cruel disease Alzheimer’s I needed help.

Alzheimer’s is a slow death and a cruel unkind way of taking you away from a much loved family.

Watching your loved one deteriorate and forgot who you are breaks your heart with every visit but to watch a tormented death is traumatic and doesn’t go away.

Everyone says it’s a blessing when they finally pass well it isn’t and never will be because she didn’t die in peace and to see that having seen the torture Alzheimer’s causes to your loved one and yourself is a final blow.

My story is I reached out even though I thought I’m too old to seek help when a parent dies as I’m 65 but it was the best thing I could have done the sessions where my safe space my way of keeping my mum as the mum I knew with me and not forgetting her with help to talk through to let me cry and be sad but feel safe and valued as my own person was so invaluable to me.

I was listened to and respected and I felt grateful and humbled by the sessions I received.

Without the sessions I would have carried on screaming inside with bits of me being etched away but with the sessions I was able to openly talk about how sad and lonely I felt.

I feel honoured to have had the privilege with my therapist who I trusted and valued and helped me see I wasn’t alone.
