"Outstanding care from staff"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Cardiology (Wards 19, 24, 43a, 43b & 44a) Maternity care (wards 68, 72 &73) / Maternity care (Ward 72)

(as the patient),

I’m currently pregnant with my first baby and had a consultant appointment to discuss an my pre-existing fast heart rate. The appointment started with a midwife check, a chat with the Doctor and a few initial observations.

I received an ECG and Doctors suggested it would be best to admit me in order to get some more tests done. I didn’t expect to stay in hospital and was a little anxious to begin with as I have never stayed in hospital before. I was quickly admitted to Ward 72 in the maternity unit.

Immediately I was welcomed by Lynn, HCSW who was very kind and supportive, she put me at ease. The ward was well equipped and felt like a safe space with a dining area, stocked fridge and consideration taken to make patients feel comfortable. The only thing that I felt could have been improved on was the option of vegetarian options, there was often one option for vegetarians but multiple for other dietary requirements.

All staff were so friendly, kind and professional. The midwives throughout my stay, Christine, Stacey and Rachel (who in particular was very warm, positive and supportive with every patient she dealt with).

The tests I underwent included ECG, echo and an ambulatory ECG fitted, the cardiology team were also kind and professional and they worked quickly to ensure my stay was as short as possible.

Overall, my experience of ward 72 gave me an insight into the care I’ll receive when my baby arrives later this year and it has taken a lot of apprehension away, I am confident I will be well cared for by the staff and their colleagues.
