"A heartfelt thanks to the staff"

About: Maternity care (wards 68, 72 &73) / Maternity care (Ward 72)

(as a service user),

Myself and my husband would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Princess Royal Maternity following the delivery of our first child.

I was admitted for induction of labour to ward 72 after a visit to the antenatal clinic. I was diagnosed with a condition in pregnancy that required visits to Daycare for bloods and a few visits to Maternity Assessment for reduced movements. Every time I attended, nothing was too much bother and I felt very reassured and looked after.

On ward 72, all of the staff were friendly and welcoming. Special thanks to Joanne, Lauren, Lisa, Lynn, Annie, Dr McMillan, and the domestic and catering staff for keeping me going with chat and tea/toast!

I did have to wait for 48hrs to move to labour ward due to bed pressures, but this can't be helped. Huge thanks to midwives Lynn and Eliza on labour ward for keeping me calm, explaining every step to me and taking such good care of me during what could have been a very stressful time.

Lynn was quick to contact the anaesthetist Callum to site my epidural - which he did quickly and efficiently, I was very worried about having it placed, but I barely felt a thing.

Being a medic, I was anxious about moving to the other side of the fence being a patient, but the team answered all my questions and explained the monitoring and what it was for.

When I ultimately required a C-section, the theatre team were calm and reassuring, the whole environment was positive and helped put me at ease.

Consultant Dr McBride and her registrar Liam could not have been lovelier.

In a time where there are many negative stories regarding the NHS, I think it's important to highlight when great care has been given, and all of the staff who I met on my journey are a credit to the NHS.

Dear firsttimemum24,

Congratulations on the birth of your baby. I understand how strange it would feel being on the other side but its reassuring to hear how supportive and encouraging you found the staff to be. I will share this with the whole PRM team, although well done on remembering so many names. Hope you are all settling into family life well.

Best wishes,

Tracy Orr
