"Walking independently after stroke rehabilitation"

About: Cameron Hospital / Stroke care

(as a service user),

I was in the Victoria Hospital for 4 weeks before coming here. I came here to work my rehab, however a setback with a flare-up of my gallbladder ending up having to go back to the Victoria Hospital for further investigation.

I returned 2 weeks later and my rehab was delayed. I came here unable to do anything for myself, unable to walk or dress or even go to the toilet on my own. I felt helpless and down.

6 or 7 weeks here and I'm going home. Hooray! I will be walking out the door independently without any support aids. I will keep safe and use my stick when outside.

Hi BOB,

Thank you so much for taking the time to give us such positive feedback. We appreciate that having a stroke can have a profound emotional impact on a person and I hope you felt supported by the team during this difficult time.

Although you had a set back by having to return to Victoria Hospital, you returned determined to achieve your goals. I am delighted that you have been able to achieve independence so that you could return home.

I will ensure your feedback is shared with all the team. I wish you all the best for the future and thank you again for taking the time to give us such lovely feedback.

Best wishes,

Donna

Senior Charge Nurse, Sir George Sharp Unit
