"The NHS shines through when you need it most"

I arrived at QEUH (Ward 66) after a 19-hour stay at my local A&E. 

This was due to a fall from height on the previous evening which resulted in spinal and ankle trauma both of which would require surgery. 

This was my first major hospital stay but once admitted I felt a sense of reassurance that I was in the right place with my injuries. 

Both the nurses and support staff on the ward are great ambassadors for the NHS. The staff made sure that they did their best for me each day/night under challenging circumstances (special mention and thanks to Paul who displayed great awareness and experience on the morning of my surgery) you all are so professional.

I feel very fortunate that my care was assigned to Mr Mathieson and his team. The specialists took time to make sure we were reading from the same script regarding the surgery and any questions were answered. The anaesthetist was so supportive in talking me through my phobia of surgery and a member of Mr Matheison's surgical team regularly checked in with me post op which I appreciated.

I'm just over 5 weeks since the surgery and have my sights set on a full recovery now, thanks to this team. 

Whilst I have limited experience with hospitals in general, I can honestly say that it has been a truly humbling experience with the standard of care that I received. 

The NHS shines through when you need it most and my story is proof of that.
