"The level of care our son received was phenomenal"

About: Leeds General Infirmary / Accident and emergency Leeds General Infirmary / General surgery Leeds General Infirmary / Neurology

(as a parent/guardian),

Our was in a serious car accident in Nov 2023 and was rushed to Leeds General Infirmary from Halifax on that fateful Friday night for the urgent life saving care he required.

He arrived at LGI resus in a critical state and they kept him alive when he was in such a serious life or death condition, on Saturday he was then transferred to ward L6 after an operation to his face, the trust had to transfer a specialist nurse from St James Hospital to give him the right level of intensive care on the weekend.

On the Monday he was then transferred on to ward L3 where his intensive care continued for 3 weeks by the staff of the LGI.

The level of care our son received was phenomenal, their warmth, compassion and above all professionalism is beyond words. Something that also stood out for us was every shift change was seamless and everyone in tune with the requirements of the patient and relatives.

The result for Toby was not the fairy tale ending, his brain damage was so severe that there was no way back for him and the decision was for Toby to donate some of his organs to help others

Our family are so indebted to the fantastic care Toby received whilst in the LGI, he was given every possibility available to him for him to fight back to fitness and boy did he fight but it was not to be for him.

Thanks for everyone involved in our son's care, it was outstanding.

Please accept my sincerest thanks for your thoughtful and generous words.

It is heart-warming to read that the care and compassion both Toby and your family received at such a devastating time helped in some way to make a terrible situation bearable.

I sincerely hope that you and your family are gradually finding ways to rebuild your lives, and I wish you all the best for the future.

I have passed on your amazing words of support and encouragement to the relevant matrons and asked that it is shared with everyone involved in Toby's care. I know all the staff will be extremely comforted to know that you and your family were very grateful for the compassion and care Toby received.

Once again thankyou so much.
