A routine mammogram revealed a breast lump, and biopsies at The Mermaid Centre revealed it to be cancer, which had also spread to a lymph node. It was a scary time but I am so grateful to the staff of the Mermaid Centre and the excellent surgeon, Mr Batt.
On every occasion that I went there for the various phases in diagnoses and pre-op preparation, everyone I met smiled and introduced their name and role. The staff gave generously of their time to explain the whole process to me, and I was really grateful to have the chance for some questions of the breast care nurses by phone as well. I felt that the surgeon and the rest of the team were really listening to what my priorities were and did their best to make things straightforward.
From having felt scared and rather lost, I felt in safe hands and within a system working hard to look after me
