About: Highbridge Medical Centre

(as a service user),

After experiencing undiagnosed bleeding for six weeks I had numerous contacts with this surgery. Results from tests were not consulted or doctors didn't know how to do so despite a colleague previously accessing them and advising me of their content. Two internal examinations were deemed  normal despite severe pain. In addition I was taking medication that had previously worked to address hormonal bleeding but after a recent hospital procedure the bleeding had restarted.

On my last consultation I asked how they were planning to diagnose the bleeding. The doctor's reply was that I had tests in the last year to investigate I had cancer and it wasn't. As I have previously suffered from anaemia due to blood loss I stated that to avoid a repeat of an iron transfusion the reason for my bleeding needed to be diagnosed. The doctors reply was what did I expect them to do - they are health care professionals not me! I only got some help when I asked did they just expect me to keep bleeding to which the doctor stated it could clear up! No reference to the pain endured.

I pushed for emergency referral to Musgrove where it was found that a coil fitted was completely misaligned which was causing the bleeding and severe pain when I walked around. It was removed but had I not forced the issue I would have left the surgery consultation accepting I should endure the pain and bleeding.

Complete lack of care and concern from medical staff and the short-sighted assumption that all middle aged women's ailments are likely to be menopausal even when they are taking meds to stop hormonal bleeding.
