"No stone was left unturned"

About: General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde Royal Alexandra Hospital / Elderly Medicine (wards 3-7 & 36)

(as the patient),

I recently had an unexplained fall landing on my left hip then my head which bled profusely.  My GP surgery  were informed but as the Dr was consulting they were unable to attend and advised calling an ambulance. This was duly done.

Ambulance was called but time scale was 1 hr. Surgery which was two minutes away was again contacted but stated they could not (or would not attend as they were not insured. As I stated I was bleeding profusely from a head wound. Another GP surgery was then contacted and within a couple of minutes a doctor very kindly came out and took charge of the situation. I would like to thank the doctor very much for their care and concern.

Ambulance duly arrived and I was taken to the RAH in Paisley where I was transferred to ward 4 The Older Adult Assessment Unit under the care of Dr McGurn and his team - including Dr Farrah and junior Dr Summers. I was most impressed by the lengths that were taken to try and discover the cause of my fall. No stone was left unturned and I had blood tests, an ECG, X-rays and a brain scan all done with kindness and care. All I am glad to say were clear. NHS at its very best.

I would like to thank Dr McGurn and his team for their care and concern who after all the negative publicity surrounding the NHS restored my faith in it. I would also like to thank the wonderful nurses on Ward 4 whose patience, help and good humour were never ending. They are what the NHS are all about. I sincerely hope this letter will reach the people concerned at the RAH Paisley.

Many thanks

Dear Waltzing Matilda,

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us and I hope you are recovering well from your fall and the injuries you received. I am delighted to hear that you had such a positive experience whilst receiving treatment and care from Dr McGurn and team; I will share your thanks and praise which I know will be most appreciated. I'm sorry to learn that you had a less positive experience with regards to your initial contact with your GP practice. GP practices operate as independent contractors and each have their own feedback, comments and concerns process. If you wish to follow this aspect of your treatment and care up with the practice, I would advise that you call or write to the Practice Manager in the first instance. If you would like independent advice on how to give feedback or raise a concern with a GP practice you can access this via the Patient Advice and Support Service (PASS) by calling 0800 917 2127 or by contacting them via their website: www.pass-scotland.org.uk.

Wishing you a continued speedy recovery.

Kind regards,

Lisa Martin,

Patient Experience Public Involvement Manager.
