"Always going that extra mile"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Gynaecology (Ward 32)

(as the patient),

I went into the RAH in Paisley for an elective total laparoscopic hysterectomy with bilateral salphingo- oooh erecting and closure of bladder dome defect. It was big!

But the care and kindness I received from every single member of staff I encountered, from the surgeon Dr Gupta, anaesthetist, to the nurses, doctors, all staff regardless of their role (cleaners included) on ward 32 was wonderful.

The were attentive, friendly, warm and welcoming. They really looked after me, praised and encouraged me and took the time to share a laugh and a giggle, the took an interest in who I am as a person and did their utmost to help make my stay as comfortable as possible.

It’s just the little things, knowing I prefer my water as cold as they could possible get it. Linda even made up a fresh batch of ice after coming on shift to find there was non available and she brought me a cup of ice as soon as it was frozen.

I stayed one extra night as I took a wobble after my going home shower and passed out and bumped my head. But there were 4 nurses with me when I came round after only a few seconds (enough time for me to have a lovely dream haha). I was completely oblivious of my fall but by jings the egg on my forehead was sore. But they all helped to get me in a chair and safely deposited back in my bed where the doctor was there ready to check me over.

All that aside, the staff on the ward were just wonderful Angels who had nothing but a kind, gentle word and sunny disposition .. to all the patients in my room where I desired coolness and the breeze from the open window, the lovely lady next to me, bless her was just so desperately cold, but rather than making me feel bad or selfish for my requirements of cooling air, they provided heat packs and extra blankets to keep my companion cosy. Always going that extra mile.

I cannot thank them enough from being my Angels and I will never forget them or their kindness xxx

Dear Aileen573,

Thank you so much for taking the time to feedback following your surgery in Ward 32.

The team will be delighted hear you found them, attentive, friendly, warm and welcoming. That you were looked after, praised and encouraged as well as having a laugh.

Dr Gupta, our anaesthetic team; as well as our nurses, doctors & every staff member - including our domestics - will be delighted to read this wonderful praise!

I will share this with my gynaecology team, as well as our anaesthetic & domestic colleagues.

I wish you a speedy recovery.

Kind regards,

Nikki
