I was awaiting my surgery on the ward in Withers Musgrave Park Hospital. I was firstly visited by a lady anaesthetist and she was lovely and very reassuring.
Then a senior member of staff came to speak to me before my surgery.
I found them to be cold, rushed, inconsiderate, poor bedside manner. They asked to mark my left leg when was the hip side to be replaced. I stood up and they said to pull my trousers down, because they cant do it on my trousers.
I felt rushed and not listened to. There no compassion.
When I did tell them my concerns they said they are the biggest orthopaedics unit in the UK and that they do up to 100 of them a week.
I do not consider myself to be a person that would ever complain, however they left me feeling unsettled.
I had previously been in contact to discuss my anxieties so they were aware of this.
They just came across as though they had no time and just wanted to get the job done.
I appreciate that they have been doing this for a long time and it is their everyday job, but every patient is different and should be treated with care and compassion. Your core values are stated as: We are sensitive, caring, respectful and understanding towards those we care for and support and our colleagues. We listen carefully to others to better understand and take action to help them and ourselves.
This was not the experience I had. I just hope that no one else feels the way I felt after speaking with the senior member of staff right before my surgery!
"I felt rushed and not listened to. There no compassion."
