"prosthetic services"

About: WestMARC (West of Scotland Mobility and Rehabilitation Centre)

(as the patient),

I have been an amputee for 57yrs and have mostly adapted to changes made to artificial limbs, sometimes it has been a struggle.

Fitters and workshop staff have always seemed to do their very best to achieve the best adjustments and fittings needed to keep me comfortable.

I am 73yrs, above the knee amputee, walk unaided, and am pretty mobile and enjoy holidays both home and abroad.

Sadly I have noticed how much the service has been under strain in recent years, with check sockets and new sockets, taking so much longer to be ready for patient to try.

If there is an issue then the patient has to wait weeks more before re-call. This can be devastating to someone who is anxious to be mobile and independant.

Perhaps trying to recruit the staff required is proving difficult.

In the meantime I would like to recognise and thank the prosthetic team at The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for doing their very best to keep myself going to the best of my mobility.

I can only hope that the terrible high pressure the staff seem to be under can get resolved.

Dear hairbearbunch,

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch.

We are heartened to hear that, over the years, you have found our staff to be dedicated and committed to ensuring your comfort and mobility. Your acknowledgment of their efforts is truly valued, and we will certainly pass on your kind words to the team.

We understand your concerns regarding the delays in the provision of sockets and we are actively working to address these issues and improve our service delivery.

Your recognition of the team’s hard work, despite the current strains, is greatly appreciated. We remain dedicated to providing the best possible care and support to you and all our patients.

Best wishes

Karl Lees
