"Made to feel like your doing something wrong."

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

I attended a&e at the Queen Elizabeth hospital recently after being told to do so within half an hour from nhs 24.

I had an infection in my body and was severely struggling to breathe because of the pain.

The staff in a & e should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for the way they speak to patients in such critical and vu*nerable conditions.

My partner checked me in as I was unable to hold myself up never mind speak and explained the situation that we had been told to attend asap and they would send all my info through to the department.

The staffs response was that they didn't have anything so we would need to wait. My partner told them I was extremely struggling to breathe and would be lucky if I was here in the time it would take to be seen and asked why we were told to rush down if we could not been seen as an emergency. Their response was that we would have to wait until called.

There was also a lady next to us who had a stomach ulcer that had burst & was in agony. She was being told the exact same thing! Pretty sure these things count as an emergency, I was gasping for air in the waiting room while the staff sat and watched me as I made eye contact with the staff members numerous times while panicking as my body was starting to go numb.

I’ve had sepsis before and it had already been explained to staff but they totally disregarded it. I felt like just a number, even if your head was hanging off you would still be told that you need to wait.

Appalling behaviour from people who work in the medical field and have a duty of care and responsibility to patients. Even the way the spoke to some people who were only asking simple questions was disgusting.

Can not fault any of the nurses who helped me and cared for me once I was seen.

You go here when you seriously need help and you are made to feel like your doing something wrong.
