"Care for broken wrist"

About: York Hospital / Accident and emergency York Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I was very happy with the care I received recently at York Hospital. I came in with a clearly broken wrist, and, despite being told that it could be up to 5 hours' waiting time as there is no urgent care for broken bones, by the time those 5 hours were up I had been X-rayed twice, had my fracture reduced, and a temporary cast put on.

My initial doctor, Dr. Ogunjimi, was incredible, staying well after his shift had ended so that he could make sure my arm was alright and secured in a cast. He was reassuring, compassionate and made sure I had everything I needed.

The only downside I had is that it took 4 hours to get pain relief, and even then I was offered something that I had already said I couldn't have, but this was soon remedied.

I appreciate everyone who took their time to care for me, including all the nurses (Patrick was wonderful and very caring, especially for another patient nearby who was struggling too) and Dr. Rowe, who included me in the process, talked me through my X-Rays and even arranged my fit note for work before I'd left the hospital.

I don't plan to break anything else, but I am very happy to have been cared for by these fabulous people.
