"Signage needed"

About: Victoria Hospital / Dermatology

(as a relative),

I recently had to take my husband to a dermatology appointment, he has trouble with his mobility.  After parking the car we looked around for the department but could not find it listed anywhere on the boards.  A young staff member saw us and explained we had to walk along a corridor, go outside, go up two steps and the dept was there. My husband walks slowly with a zimmer frame, I knew this was going to be a struggle for us both.  We managed it eventually with a struggle.

When we got to the place there was a lady with a small child in a pram who had also struggled up the stairs and while we commented on this amongst ourselves a third lady very kindly told us that there was a lift available and she showed us both where it was.  While this was very kind of her, I suggest that the hospital when sending out the appointment letter they include a little map of where the dermatology department is and mention that there are lifts, we would have found this most helpful.

Dear echoyc48

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback.

I am sorry to hear you struggled to find dermatology and that it was difficult to navigate the whereabouts of the department with in the hospital. Dermatology out patients is situated at the very end of the hospital which has an external stair case and a lift for the patients attending, and I agree can be a bit hard to locate. I apologise you did not receive a map in your new patient letter and I will look into the process for having a map included with our new patient paperwork.

I agree with your findings that despite a sign for the lift being displayed at the stair entrance, signage at the actual lift access area could be clearer. I will speak to our estates team and see if we can improve the signage at this access point.

Again thank you for the feedback
