"Hospital treatment since a motorbike accident"

(as a service user),

I was involved in a motorcycle accident over a year ago sustaining several broken ribs, broken ankle and a shattered collar bone. I had to have a titanium plate and screws attached to the bone. Spent two or three nights at the Victoria hospital in Kirkcaldy. I was treated with respect and dignity and I felt safe with their professionalism and attention to detail. In fact I'd go as far as to say all the staff who dealt with me whether anaesthetist or nurse, were simply brilliant.

Unfortunately as time went on my wound opened exposing the plate. This was not any fault of the NHS, just one of those things. Anyway I have been back and forth for  5 or 6 follow up operations mostly at the Victoria but also at QM in Dunfermline. I had the initial plate removed as the wound/scar kept opening. That certainly helped my wound heal but before long the collar bone collapsed again. It just hadn't healed quite enough due to an infection in the bone. Again, no fault of the NHS, the plate just ended up exposed to the air. I had another plate and screws put in later down the line. I just had that second plate removed.

Every time I have been for an operation on my collar bone the experience has been consistently great. I was treated with respect and dignity and I felt safe with their professionalism and attention to detail. All the staff who dealt with me whether anaesthetist, doctor or nurse, were just brilliant.
