"The whole team made me feel completely at ease"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Maternity care Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Reproductive Health (Simpson Centre)

(as the patient),

I had a planned and elective c-section in August. I have a rare blood disorder making my situation a little more complicated.

I was extremely apprehensive about having a c-section but knew it was the safest way to bring my baby into the world. however the whole team made me feel completely at ease and that I was in safe hands throughout the whole thing. It started when we were greeted by Jen (midwife) who has a lovely down to earth personality and great sense of humour, although extremely professional. She made me feel she had my back from the minute we met and gave me reassurance throughout the whole procedure.

Rebecca (anaesthetist) was great explaining everything and also reassuring me throughout the procedure. She answered any questions we had and was extremely confident in what she does which was so reassuring that I was in safe hands, especially given how anxious I was! Her taste in music was great too!

Claire showed great compassion and we felt with her around everyone was able to do the job they were there to do with her support. Claire (can’t remember her role - sorry!) and Ollie (consultant anaesthetist) had warming personalities and made us feel at ease. With Rebecca being so confident in her role it allowed Ollie to oversee matters and have conversations with us during the procedure creating a relaxed atmosphere.

Everyone made the experience as pleasant as possible for us making it one I can look back on without the crunch in the stomach about how apprehensive I was prior to it and removing any anxieties I once had.

Every single member of the team showed compassion, care and confidence in what they were doing. Everyone created an extremely relaxed and welcoming atmosphere and each person knew their role and carried it out seamlessly. The execution of the complete procedure by everyone involved in the theatre team was incredible to be part of and witnessing what an amazing theatre team Edinburgh royal/Simpsons maternity unit have to deliver our babies safely is heartwarming

I would like to send a huge thanks to the team who were nothing short of fantastic.
