Today Rampton management made the decision to remove all waste bins from dayrooms. This was due to a tragic incident at a mental health unit in the south of England. The rational for this decision was to minimise the risk of a patient.
While this may be a risk in other units, on the Peaks Unit, no patient would ever be alone in the dayroom without a member of staff present, thus reducing the likelihood of such an incident been possible. The removal of bins is only going to result in our living areas becoming unclean and unhygienic. I doubt it's going to save any lives.
This type of knee jerk reaction is typical of the NHS and is unhelpful. Please return our bins and find better ways to safeguard patients.
"Knee-jerk reaction."
