"Nothing was too big a problem"

About: Grantham & District Hospital / Endoscopy

(as the patient),

Endoscopy under general anaesthetic at Grantham Hospital.

I was feeling nervous about the procedure but when I arrived the staff were so kind and warm that I felt at ease and reassured.

My ward nurse, Bindu, was so lovely. She worked hard all day and only had a ten-minute break. Nothing was too big a problem and she was always polite and respectful. I felt like I’d made a new friend when I left. I also want to thank the anaesthetist, he was so friendly and lovely.

The only negative I have is more about the hospital communication regarding information about the day itself. I received so many letters about my procedure but nowhere did it mention I’d be in for the whole day. The nurses asked if I had a dressing gown or slippers, I didn’t. I luckily brought my contact lenses case but didn’t bring my glasses.

I wish they’d provided more information about what we should bring on the day, especially a phone charger as there is no TV in the ward to occupy time. There is an online service you can scan to read magazines etc for free but the hospital wifi you need to use it wasn’t strong enough.

Apart from that I would happily return to this hospital in future based on the staff alone and I’ll be more prepared with something to read and wear.

Dear pegasusjn36

Thank you so much for these comments and I will definitely pick up the points about not telling you it would be an all day experience- I can only apologise for that.

I will ensure Bindu sees your comments and of course all of the team including theatres, as they work hard to try and make every patient have the best experience they can have with the resources we have available and your comments show that we are getting it right, just a few tweaks still for information.

We do give pre op our admissions book so will also remind them to ensure patients are receiving this as it would have told you that in the booklet, apologises for that.

Lovely to hear you say you would come back to us and yes please bring your dressing gown, we do have books in the day room so will also remind the nurses to offer them to patients waiting.

Please take care and I hope you are recovering well.

KR

Julie
