Transport
As someone regularly visiting a patient at the hospital I am disappointed at the experience of the outside of the building, considering the fact that its a modern facility. Despite the fact that there is ample parking, there is never any space in the drop off zones as its always full of empty cars (ignoring clear no-parking signage). Despite the fact that its a no smoking zone you have to walk through clouds of smoke & bins piled high with fag butts to access the building. I'd like to see hospitals designed with beautiful, accessible green space around them instead of hostile, litter strewn tarmacked car sewers. There have been so many studies showing that spending time in green spaces can help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, lower levels of stress hormones, improve mood, and increase feelings of happiness and well-being. Why are our hospitals not reflecting this need?
Green space with flowers, seating and birdsong would be far more beneficial for the wellbeing of patients, visitors and staff than the current dystopian hellhole designs currently in vogue.
