"Exceptional palliative care for my gran"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Medicine for the Older Adult (Wards 14,20,22)

(as a relative),

My beloved gran was transferred to ward 22 last week and was subsequently placed on palliative care a few days later. She went on to pass away peacefully after 4 days on palliative care in this ward.

The staff who looked after her were all amazing. As a nurse myself, witnessing the high standard of care the team gave my gran in her last days made me proud to be a nurse in the NHS.

You should all be so proud of the work you do. You all treated my gran like she was your own relative and you allowed us to make such treasured memories with her in her last days, keeping her comfortable throughout. You were all so attentive and supportive of both my gran and my family as a whole and for that we cannot thank you enough.

I will never forget the compassion and empathy one CSW, in particular, showed (I cannot recall her name although she shared with us she had also experienced loss) - you are truly an angel on earth and the way you support others experiencing loss is something we could all learn from. My family and I will never forget how you supported us in our darkest time. You are nothing short of an inspiration - your strength and resilience honestly inspires that in others.

When the time came for my gran to pass, the staff came in so promptly to decorate her room with candles etc and tidy my gran up to allow a tranquil environment for us to say our goodbyes. Everyone is fully aware of the pressure of the NHS and the pressures on beds, especially within older adult services, however when my gran passed away the staff could not have been any more reassuring that we could spend as much time as we needed with her. They truly put my gran and my families needs at the forefront of their priorities.

Dear MumH14,

Sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved gran. Thank you very much for your lovely feedback, the team will be thrilled to hear such positive words and kind remarks. I will ensure that this is shared with the Senior Charge Nurse and the staff on the ward.

Thanks again and take care.
