I was admitted to the hospice after a period of being unable to eat due to a cancer diagnosis. The care was top-notch. All the staff are so dedicated and the atmosphere is so professional but friendly. All the team members are easy to talk to and the consultant and doctors give you as much time as you need to quell your fears. Food is excellent, served by a friendly team. Nothing is rushed and you can take your time to do what you want whenever you want to do it. The day facilities include all sorts of activities (or non if you prefer) in lovely surroundings. If you do need to stay at a hospice John Eastwood is the place to!
Although time at John Eastwood was good there are a couple of things to mention that would improve it:
1. Some visitors came to see me during my stay. Each of the introduced themselves, explaining that they had come to chat. They then started a conversation. At no time did either of them ask whether I wanted to talk at be left alone. I would have thought it polite to check that it was in order to sit on my bed and continue the conversation first.
2. During the night some of the staff are fairly close by and continue with their conversations - the volume getting louder and louder as the conversation moves along. I am sure this is fine when a patient is actually asleep, but if one is trying to get to sleep with constant, half-heard, voices it is very off-putting and hard to drift off
