From some time now, I have been suffering from increasingly painful knees which are especially affecting my ability to climb/descend stairs and to tackle any slopes on foot. My GP referred me for an x-ray. The outcome confirmed serious osteoarthritis degeneration in both knees. Initial steroid injections were agreed but I was advised, that ultimately the only answer would probably necessitate knee replacements.
Having agreed to this course of action I was referred for further orthopaedic assessment at the Hythe Hospital. Here my condition was assessed by Physiotherapist Dean. The whole experience was very informative. He explained that my condition was caused by serious arthritis behind my knee caps and after discussing the various options he advised to have knee replacement procedure done. He there and then dictated a letter for my referral to New Hall hospital. I have since received an invitation for further assessment at New Hall hospital.
All I can say that I am very impressed by the speed and efficiency of the entire process so far, for which I am very grateful.
