"Excellent nurses, but lacking support from other services"

About: Integrated Community Services Service Delivery Unit / Glades Neighbourhood Team

(as the patient),

I developed leg ulcers 15years ago They have never completely healed. I spent many years visiting the surgery every day but now the nurses come to me three times a week. I have been housebound through a bad hip, a hernia and bi-laterally ulcers for five years now. I also suffer with depression. I have type two diabetes.

I was hospitalised last year for ten weeks with osteomyelitis after a bone in my heel broke.

I have since been waiting nearly 12months for adaptations to be made to my home to make it easier for me to cope with my conditions.

The nurses are excellent but the supporting services are severely lacking. I have seen the OT twice and a physio once since leaving hospital last October.

Dear EvilC,

Thank-you for your feedback. I am pleased to hear that you feel the service from our Nurses has been excellent but I am disappointed to hear that you feel the service from our Therapists has been lacking. Unfortunately, our Therapy workforce is extremely small in comparison to our Nursing workforce. We only have one part-time Physiotherapist and one part-time Occupational Therapist at present so the service they are able to provide is for urgent short-term needs. I believe that the adaptations you have ben waiting over 12 months for may be related to another team (HASE - Housing, Adaptations and Specialist Equipment Service). If you would like to discuss this further I am happy to do so - Please contact 0300 123 7593, option 1 & option 3).

With best wishes,

Ruth Walmsley

Operational Lead
