"The parking was absolutely disgraceful"

About: Gynaecology / Assisted Conception (Ward 35)

(as a service user),

All car parks were completely full with a tailback for each car parking section. This resulted in us being late for the appointment we had despite the fact we had gotten there in plenty of time. We had to drive around in circles multiple times before we eventually found a parking space.

Patients complain about long waiting times or their appointment being later than their alloted time and I fully understand why this is an issue.

In my experience, the parking wad absolutely disgraceful.

The staff in the hospital could not have been any nicer or understanding, absolutely cannot fault the staff.

The parking, however, needs seriously upgraded and more parking facilities implemented.

First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to write to us and share your experiences whilst accessing the Ninewells Hospital Car Park and please accept our sincere apologies for any additional anxiety your encountered as a result of accessing our car parks.

NHS Tayside provides in excess of 2,500 spaces across our Ninewells site, however, we acknowledge that demand for parking at Ninewells Hospital has increased, and that this is in part, in direct response to the removal of parking charges from the Ninewells Hospital Car Parks.

Recent analysis undertaken by our car park management provider, SABA Ltd, has evidenced that the average occupancy rate of patient and visitor parking bays on the Ninewells site is 4 vehicles per day, however, it is important to acknowledge that during periods of peak demand, patients and visitors, may still experience periods of vehicle congestion, which continues to be closely monitored and managed by SABA Ltd.

NHST recognises that many of our patients and staff may be travelling a considerable distance to attend for scheduled appointments on the Ninewells site, and we recognise that the use of public transport may not be feasible for everyone. In those circumstances, we encourage patients to consider being dropped off by a relative or friend wherever possible, and for our staff to consider car share opportunities, as these contribute to supporting a reduced level of demand for parking across the site.

For those who reside more locally, we encourage the use of public transport as a suitable alternative to bringing their vehicle on site wherever possible.

NHST welcomes your feedback, and in an effort to alleviate some of the pressures currently being experienced across our car parking footprint, NHST are currently undertaking a review of the Ninewells Car Parks, and are considering a range of options to support improved levels of access to the existing parking footprint.

Regards

Louise Fraser

Hi Georginam168,

Thank you for taking the time to submit your feedback regarding the car parking situation at Ninewells. As you will see from the response above NHS Tayside are aware of this issue and are currently undertaking a review of car parking facilities.

We appreciate that this is an issue for our patients and can cause additional stress and anxiety for you, but am pleased to hear of your positive experience that staff in ACU were understanding of this issue.
