My GP contacted me following a 24 hour ECG result revealed I had bradycardia and heart block, I needed to have a pacemaker fitted and instructed me to call for an ambulance to go to A&E.
I arranged other transport and went to Lincoln County Hospital where I received an ECG and then waited for 13 hours to see a doctor. The doctor asked my why I had come and I told them. They then said rather abruptly that I had a diagnosis and was told what the treatment was so I should not have come to A&E but to the cardiology department in the day time.
I was told to return to the A&E waiting area and as it was 6am I took my prescribed heart pressure medication as normal. When a nurse came to take my next set of obs it was found that my heart rate had dropped from the previously recorded 33 beats per minute to 24. The duty cardiologist was summoned and I was taken into resus.
Seven hours later I was admitted to the cardiology ward. By this time I had been in the hospital for 20 hours and had been given a sandwich and two cups of tea.
