"There should definitely be some kind of alternative"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) Royal Alexandra Hospital / Radiology

(as the patient),

My GP has sent me to the hospital at the beginning of this week. The time to be seen by a doctor was shocking, however he was doing a great job as it was just one doctor seeing all the patients coming in and it was a very busy waiting room.

The nurse is charge Ryan was regularly coming out to the waiting room to give us updates and everyone was offered a warm drink and a sandwich.

I was then moved into a room where I waiting to see the doctor.

Unfortunately the ward had no spaces available and I was asked to go to another room which  was freezing. The staff made sure to give us plenty of blankets and they were very apologetic.

Theres nothing bad I can say about the staff working in the ward as everyone was so polite and helpful, however I was disappointed with the fact how long I had to wait to get into a bed, and even after all that waiting I was put in a freezing room on a chair. There should definitely be some kind of alternative for patients coming in who can’t get a bed.

I do understand that with the winter coming NHS is under a lot of pressure to accommodate all patients but there were many patients waiting with me for hours to get in who were extremely vulnerable and unwell.

I want to give special thanks to nurses Ryan, Kat and Lindsay who looked after all those patients and myself, the doctor Rudy, and to all the healthcare support workers who were also checking on us and making sure we at least had something to drink and eat.

Dear Patient1404

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

I am sorry to hear about the long wait times you experienced and the discomfort of being placed in a cold room. We understand how distressing this must have been, especially given the circumstances. This will be raised with our Facilities Team.

I am pleased to hear that despite these challenges, our staff, including Nurse Ryan, Nurse Kat, Nurse Lindsay, and Doctor Rudy, provided you with attentive and compassionate care. It is heartening to know that their efforts to keep you informed and comfortable were appreciated. We will ensure that your kind words are passed on to them and the healthcare support workers who assisted you.

We acknowledge the pressures faced by the NHS, particularly during the winter months, and we are committed to finding ways to better manage patient flow and reduce our waiting times.

I hope you are feeling better.

Thanks

Nicole
