I just wanted to take the time to highlight how amazing my recent elective C-section was.
Every single member of staff who was involved, I cannot fault. If anything, I would absolutely love them to get the recognition they all so deserve. I only caught a few names at the time, but every single member of staff made a difference to my birthing experience.
My first birth was pretty traumatic- so I was very very anxious about this one. But each and every staff member took the time with me to calm me down, reassure me, and take my anxieties away.
Firstly - the anaesthesiologist, I didn’t catch his name .. but that man honestly couldn’t have comforted me more. My whole body was shaking with fear, I was so scared and anxious of getting the cannula (I’ve never not passed out getting one) and the spinal. He went so slowly to ensure he found a vein first time and didn’t have to do it more than once. He went out his way to make sure I knew everything that was happening, and was as comfortable as possible. Especially with the spinal - nothing was too much for him and without him and his patience i don’t know how I’d have coped.
The two nurses in the theatre (Charlotte and Kenny I’m sure!) - both again, so patient with my anxiety and Charlotte stayed with me the full time, holding my hand and reassuring me constantly I was okay. Both also keeping up my spirits, making me laugh and taking my mind off what was happening - but also explaining every step of the way so I knew and was prepared. I cannot thank them enough.
The surgeons, again the patience they had with me was incredible. Answering all my crazy questions, talking me through the process as it was happening and keeping my mind busy from worrying!
And lastly the nurses/midwives who looked after me after surgery - I didn’t catch all their names, but one in particular who I really want to thank. (I’m sure her name is Laura - she was working the nightshift). After my partner had to leave, Laura stayed by my side a lot of the night helping me. I was anxious about being alone as I couldn’t move, and was feeling like I couldn’t remember what to do - but Laura stayed by me, helping me with my newborn but also chatting to me to help my anxiety and keep my spirits up. I don’t think at the time she realises how much she helped me, but I am so grateful for her words that night.
Everyone at Paisley Maternity - always have went above and beyond and is why I made sure to choose RAH as my hospital for my last baby. From day one - all the staff have been amazing. From the midwives, sonographers, consultants and everyone in between. Thank you x
