"My stay and re-hab"

About: Comm Hosp Wards (Evesham) / Abbott Ward Comm Hosp Wards (Evesham) / Therapy Services

(as the patient),

Following a cardiac arrest and subsequent ischemic bowel and spinal stroke, I was admitted to Abbott Ward, Evesham community hospital for rehab.

When I was initially admitted I was only able to transfer from a bed to wheelchair using a banana board and unable to stand freely or walk.

On my assessment and first meeting with the physio team I was asked what goals I would like to achieve.

We had an honest and frank discussion and I was given their opinion on what may be possible.

For the following 4 months I was given the best rehab and physio sessions I could have wished for and every step of my recovery was fully explained so I was included in decision made and what I could achieve with hard work.

I enjoyed every session I was asked to undertake and was given the best care possible alongside the rehab by the nursing staff and HCA's.

Every physio I worked with was excellent and fully aware of my condition and long term goals.

I really felt part of a sincere and caring family.

There was much fun and laughter along the way To help make my stay as enjoyable as possible.

At the end of my in-hospital rehab I was able to confidently walk with the aid of a frame which met my initial goal. Rehab and further support at home will be provided by the stroke support services team at home to further improve my mobility.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this valuable feedback about the care you received whilst an inpatient at Abbott ward. It is greatly appreciated from nursing staff and therapy staff that our patient centred care and rehab is recognised and that you felt included throughout your journey.

I will ensure that your feedback is passed on to all our staff and it is lovely to hear such wonderful comments. I know the staff work really hard to provide a welcoming environment and positive experience during a very difficult journey for our rehab patients.

It is always so rewarding to watch our patients progress, grow in confidence and go home with ongoing support to continue their journey.

I wish you all the best in your ongoing recovery!!

Best Wishes

Becky Kelly (Ward Manager)

Team Abbott

Thank you so much for your feedback. I will make sure this is passed onto all of the team. It is so lovely that you are home now where you will continue the next phase of your journey. You have worked so hard and your motivation and engagement in rehabilitation has been an inspiration to us all.

We all wish you and your family the very best for the future and hope at some stage, when you feel ready, that you will come back and visit us to catch up.

Kindest regards
