"I was pretty much left to cope on my own"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Day surgery Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Orthopaedics (Wards 10a, 10b, 10c &10d)

(as a service user),

The surgery itself has been a complete success thanks to the surgeon!

I then got taken along to ward 10a in The Queen Elizabeth, Glasgow and it was a horrific experience! I still feel traumatised 6 months later!

The staff were dismissive/non caring, I was pretty much left to cope on my own in a room after a hip replacement! I'm in my 60s with arthritis and needed some help with the loo/sitting up/washing but no-one even came near! When I asked for help I was told no, that I had to try harder!

I had my left hip replaced at another hospital in 2021 and it was night & day regarding patients treatment! Hopefully it was a terrible couple of off days for the ward, because I would hate others to be experiencing this treatment.

Dear Zebratb76

Thank you for getting in touch. I am so sorry to learn that you had a poor experience of nursing care in ward 10A QEUH following your hip replacement surgery.

The Orthopaedic multidisciplinary team strive to meet the needs of all of our patients while encouraging rehabilitation and independence after surgery. It is most disappointing that you felt the staff were uncaring and dismissive.

To allow us to investigate and respond to your concerns, I would be grateful if you could contact our complaints department with your personal details: ggc.complaints@nhs.scot

Kind regards

Morag Busby, Lead Nurse Major Trauma and Orthopaedics
