"Always put my needs first"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Maternity Care

(as a service user),

I would like to submit an amazing care opinion on the story of my Labour I had recently in Wishaw General Hospital.

After hearing a lot of negative birth stories and not remembering much of my first birth with my daughter due to the amount of pain relief and trauma I experienced, I thought I would share my story about my second birth.

I went into Labour, I was due in for an induction that night although my waters broke on their own and I just had to be put on a hormone drip to bring on contractions.

I was very nervous due to the experience I had with my first Labour although the minute I walked into the Labour room these nerves were put to ease by my amazing Midwife Alana. She talked me through everything in every small detail, brought in some mood lighting to the room to make it feel like a very nice and relaxing space, I honestly believe she deserves a massive pay rise.

I work within the NHS and I have never came across anyone quite like her, any question I asked was never too much for her to answer, anything going on throughout my labour she kept me up to date with and always put my needs first. She had us laughing just about the full way throughout my Labour and birth!

When Alana was due her break, the midwife covering her, Gayle, was also just as amazing and we had our fair share of laughs with her too. I never though I’m a million years you could be doubled over in pain with contractions and with laughter at the same time.

Once baby was born Gayle was amazing with him and checking him over and keeping me updated with what she was doing and how he was doing. As she was nightshift once her shift had ended, Alana came in to let me know who was taking over my care and to say goodbye.

This is an experience that replays daily in my memories and I wish I could go back to do it all again. I am so so thankful for the experience I had and I would love for them to know how much of a positive impact they have had on me. I would personally like to thank them and I just hope they know how thankful I am. We are thriving thanks to these amazing ladies.

Dear Chloe582,

Thank you for taking the time to share your lovely feedback of your experience at University Hospital Wishaw Maternity Department.

Firstly, congratulations on the birth of your baby. I am so pleased to hear you are both doing so well.

It can be such a worrying time giving birth, however it sounds like Alana and Gayle both helped you feel at ease and took such excellent care of you.

I look forward to passing on your kind words to the staff who will get a real boost from hearing your feedback and how they positively impacted on your experience.

Congratulations again.

Alix
